Afifa Ematuallah will read from her recently published book RETURN: Sufi Poems & Art (published by Dream Catcher Books) and will exhibit some of the original art produced for the book. Paul Abdul Wadud Sutherland will read from his collection of Middle Eastern inspired poems.

Admission £3.00. Moroccan cake and herbal teas included in entry fee.

Over the years Afifa Ematuallah and Paul Sutherland/Abdul Wadud have been inspired to write a significant amount of poetry related to Sufi, Islamic and more general spiritual traditions. They have performed their work at Edinburgh Festival of Middle Eastern Spirtuality and Peace, at the York Literature Festival and in Sheffield as part of regular Sufi evening in the city; they have also read in Canada and USA. Their work has been recently published in Tadeeb International, a bi-lingual literary and cultural journal, in Sama Ghazal Salaam UK an anthology of contemporary poetry inspired by the Sufi poetry masters such as Rumi, published by Electraglade 2009.

Abdul Wadud and Afifa Ematuallah bring their understanding of Islamic mysticism into the contemporary world presenting vivid poetic portraits of the outer and inner life on each one’s spiritual journey.
